3GN Pros Win BARC Rifle Match
The 6th Annual Bay Area Rifle Championships (BARC) was held the weekend of July 30-31st in Richmond, CA. Hosted by the Richmond Hotshots, the BARC is the longest running rifle match on the West Coast. The match director, Geoff Linder, put together a challenging match that tested each competitor’s ability to shoot short-, medium- and long-range courses. The match had a good mix of wide open targets and tight shots surrounded by no-shoots. Competitors were rewarded for speed, but with most shooters scoring minor, accuracy was the deciding factor.
When the dust settled 3-Gun Nation veteran shooters Keith Garcia, John Bagakis and Chris Sechiatano all drove JP Rifles to victory lane.
Garcia (Practical Shooting Academy Pro Team) was 1st place Tactical Optics Division and overall match winner. Garcia used his JP PCR-11 .223 caliber rifle topped with a Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 scope with the BRT reticle, Warne RAMP mount and the super accurate Hornady Steel Match ammunition to best the field. According to Garcia, it would be very difficult to find a better combination of rifle, scope and ammo for your competition needs.
“Hornady, JP Rifles and Swarovski have done all the hard work, all the shooter needs to do is hold the gun on target,” Garcia said.
Bagakis (Team Smith & Wesson) was 1st place Limited Division using an iron sighted JP-15 in .223 caliber with a 20-inch barrel. Bagakis credited his victory to the accuracy of his rifle; Bagakis bested the second place finisher by nearly 100 points on the long-range stage to cement the Limited Division victory.
Sechiatano (Team Benelli) finished 1st in the Open Division using his JP CTR-02 .223 caliber rifle topped with a Trijicon Accupoint scope. Sechiatano won all but one stage in the Open Division and beat the second place competitor by more than 25 percent. Sechiatano gave credit to his gear functioning flawlessly throughout the match, which led him to victory. Sechiatano said the winning combination of a JP rifle and a magazine extension from Nordic Components gave him all the advantage he needed to win the Division.
John Bagakis currently sits in 31st place on the 3GN Tour Standings, with 221.27 points. Meanwhile, Garcia (159.06) and Sechiatano (175.49) have both posted two scores. A third qualifying score will likely put either of them in position for a slot in the 2011 3GN Championship.
