Butler Wins Arkansas MG Championship
More than 100 competitors battled for division titles and more at the USPSA Arkansas Section Multi-Gun Championship in Fort Smith, Ark., recently. Along with prizes for Tactical Optics, Open and Limited divisions, locals were gunning for the title of Arkansas Section Champion at the level II USPSA match.
“It’s gotten to be a pretty significant match,” said Bruce Bethell, match director, as competitors traveled from California, Massachusetts and Florida, with many top pros shooting in what has become a final tune-up for the Fort Benning 3-Gun Challenge, the virtual kick-off event to each new 3-gun season.
California’s Taran Butler posted a 1321.9026 to best a field of more than 70 Tacitical Optics competitors for the division and overall win. Johny Brister was the closest competitor to Butler in Tactical Optics, followed by Ty Gentry (1018.6287), Jesse Tischauser (1009.0066) and Doug Johnson (1008.8477), rounding out the top five. Ryan Hunt (906.0251), who finished 11thoverall, also claimed the Arkansas Section Championship in Tactical Optics.
Ting Sun’s 1218.7037 edged out veteran 3-gunner Michael Pinto (1196.4342) to claim the Limited division. Haneesh Bagga (1172.5991) finished third while also claiming the Arkansas Section Championship for Limited.
In Open, it was DPMS’ James Darst (1276.2195) who cruised to victory over a field of 13 competitors. Jack Travers (1052.5369) took second, followed by Kelly Raglin (1050.3006) and Dave Campbell (1036.7075). Dale Pankratz (493.7876), who finished 12thin Open, was the Arkansas Section Champion.
Cheryl Fordyce, who finished 8thin Limited, also posted the top Ladies score at 837.2449. In Tactical Optics, FNH USA’s Dianna Liedorff turned in the top Ladies score at 795.7539, good for 22ndoverall in the division.
