Leupold Goes Tactical
For more than a century, the golden ring of Leupold optics has served as a symbol synonymous with quality and dependability. No doubt an earned reputation, Leupold became renowned because its products worked each and every time a hunter went to the field, from the swampy whitetail fields of the Southeast, to the rugged landscapes of the American West.
For decades, members of the American military sniper community have tested, trusted and utilized Leupold long-range optics for missions all over the world. Today, Leupold optics are among the elite few optics brands widely used and trusted by law enforcement and military professionals. In fact, Leupold’s versatile Mark 4 line has become so popular, Chinese-manufactured copies are now showing up in the United States. Leupold remains synonymous with quality-when lives are on the line. To further cement its place in the tactical community, Leupold recently announced the formation of a new Tactical Optics Division during the recent SHOT Show in Las Vegas.
The formation of the new division establishes dedicated engineering and project management support within the company, all with an eye toward a singular mission: to meet the fluid demands of the modern U.S. warfighter.
“I am privileged to be part of Leupold’s commitment to America’s war fighters,” said Tom Fruechtel, President, Leupold. “In launching the new Tactical Optics Division, we’ve added new overall leadership, expertise in engineering, product development and service at all levels. Best of all, we are focused on the many needs of our troops and we are dedicated to providing them with innovative, effective products. As an American family-owned, century-old company, we believe it is our duty to support them as much as they support us.”
The Tactical Optics Division is led by former U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer Kevin Trepa, while the remaining team members are a diverse group of former military and law enforcement operators, trainers, veteran Leupold employees, and practical shooting enthusiasts and competitors.
Leupold Tactical will eventually boast a full line for law enforcement and military professionals, as well as civilians. However, the new initiative hits the ground running with an already-full stable of product, including the Mark 4 and LR/T scope lines, the remarkably versatile Mark 4 CQ/T, and the recent addition of the 1X Prismatic has been immensely popular. Add in in the new Delta Point, similar in size to the seminal Docter optic so famous now in the 3-gun world, and Leupold has an optic for every phase of this exciting game. The recently-announced 1.1-8X CQBSS prototype, which represents a sort of Holy Grail of power and close-quarter versatility, has been highly anticipated in both the tactical and practical shooting communities.
The formation of the Tactical Optics Division represents a new area for what is arguably America’s most famous optics company. Understanding the needs of the modern warfighter, with an eye toward the types of gear civilian shooters want for practical shooting, primes Leupold’s. Manufactured for the rigors of duty and combat, you can expect to see Leupold Tactical in the 3-Gun Nation winner’s circle very soon.
