MGM/Parma Revive Grand Nationals
With the staggering growth in popularity of Man-on-Man Match competitions, MGM Targets and the Parma Rod & Gun Club in Idaho have joined forces to sponsor the popular Grand Nationals. This wildly favored match was formally held in Montrose, Colorado, where it had gained a reputation as one of the most exciting events of the year.
Mike Gibson, President of MGM Targets, said, "This is a match that will draw hundreds of shooters to Idaho. With its 15 stages the people who do well will easily shoot 1000 rounds. This event will be similar to the American Handgunner event held in Colorado over the years but will have many more side matches, prizes, and some great shooting."
The targeted date for the match is July 24- July 31, 2011, with the week starting off with the Sponsor's Challenge. The great week of shooting will conclude with the Finale Shoot-offs, including the Grand Finale Shoot-off. During the week shooters in the match and even spectators will have the chance to enter the side matches to try their hand in various events with cash and prizes on the line. If you have never been to a Man-on-Man match, the best comparison is to think of it as the drag racing of shooting. Two competitors race against each other to be the first to knock over all their targets and the stop plate at each stage.
"The good thing about this match", explained Travis Gibson of MGM, "is everyone shoots against shooters of like ability. All Master Class shooters are together, GM's, A's, B's, C's, D's and Unclassified will shoot with other shooters in their class. These classes will also be broken down into types of guns. There will be divisions for limited, open, revolver, open revolver, IDPS, cowboy, etc. The list goes on and on. This match promises to be fun and exciting." Rick Palmer with Center of Mass Holsters concurred reflecting, " I enjoy Man -on-Man competitions. It makes it a more social event than simply man against the clock, overall a better experience."
Registration is open now and you can go to either www.mgmtargets-grandnats.com or e-mail aarongoodfellow @hotmail.com. To register choose the division/class you will be shooting in and fill out the form. Group registration is allowed as well.
Ron Alter, a native Idahoan, stated, "I shot the American Handgunner World Shoot-off a number of times and enjoyed every one. I also shot the Winchester Challenge which was an excellent warm up for the Handgunner. I think the MGM Targets Grand Nationals will be a great replacement for the discontinued Challenge and Handgunner. I tell any and all competitors LOAD UP."
