3GN Report

Brownells sponsored “Noveske Shooting Team” Members Rob Romero and Jansen Jones, with Colt’s lone professional shooter Clint Upchurch, teamed up to take on three-person teams from all across the United States and Canada for the title of this year’s Colt 3-Man 3-Gun Champion.  Over 50 three-person teams competed in the two-match championship series presented by Colt.

The final stop of the series was held July 14-15 at Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, WV.  Romero, Jones and Upchurch, unofficially nicknamed “Team NovesColt,” took a commanding lead after the first event, and looked to put together a smooth and consistent match at event two in the hopes of closing out the series and winning the title of the nation’s top team in 3-gun for the 2012 season.

3GN Director of Competition Rob Romero, of Noveske Shooting Team, runs his shotgun during the finals.

“There is a ton of excellent competition in this series,” said Jones.  “You have some really famous guys in the shooting world here, guys I remember reading about when I was just getting into competitive shooting, guys that I was wondering if I would ever be able to shoot with, let alone out-shoot head to head.”

Top 3-gunners from Team FNH USA, Spikes Tactical, Smith & Wesson, Blackhawk, and more battled it out against Romero, Jones and Upchurch over seven challenging courses of fire. The second event of the 3-Man 3-Gun Championships pitted the teams off in three rolling thunder stages and four relay race stages. The shooters were tested not only with the rifle, pistol and shotgun, but also with stage breakdown and shooting strategy.

Noveske Shooting Team's Jansen Jones moves into a shooting position during the final at Peacemaker.

“You cannot go out to a match like this and just decide who shoots which gun; you have to decide which order you want to shoot which gun and how that may or may not help you save time on the clock,” said Romero.

When the last shots were fired and the scores finalized, Romero, Jones and Upchurch came out on top with a scope of 1,204 points, the only team in the series to crack the 1,200 point threshold.

“I knew that Rob and Jansen had competed in this championship and came up just short of winning the match two years in a row. I’m honored they asked me to be a part of their team this year and I’m really glad that I was able to be a part of something like this,” said Upchurch. “We all worked really hard and that the hard work paid off. Now, I’m looking forward to defending the title next year!”

Golden BB Helps Win Side Match

Spike's Tactical proved to be lucky and good, running a mid-five second run with this fortunate pellet scoring.

Spike’s Tactical took the side match, posting runs of 13, nine and eight seconds before the winning mid-five second run. On that final run, one team member neutralized a clay target with a single bb, running on the ragged edge of performance to get the win.

Spike's Tactical put up a five-second run to win the side match during the Colt 3-Man 3-Gun Championship.
