Voigt Wins Open at Nationals
Horner, Miller, Dueck, Liu Top Divisions at USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals
By Chad Adams
SureFire’s Mike Voigt is back in the driver’s seat of the Open division race for the 3-Gun Nation Divisional Championship. Voigt took advantage of a Clint Upchurch mistake then outlasted longtime division rival Jerry Miculek to pick up a key USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals Open win.
Upchurch, who has led the 3GN Open Division all season, was disqualified from the match when is pistol came out of the holster while maneuvering through a stage. That opened the door for Voigt and Miculek heading into the FNH USA Championship next month.
But it was Voigt who seized the opportunity, thereby eliminating Miculek from contention. Voigt is now tied with Upchurch, at 300 points apiece. Neither will have to win their division at FN, merely the competitor who finishes highest will win the title—a straight heads-up competition for the 3GN Open Division Championship and $5,000 from Hornady.
Daniel Horner outlasted Taran Butler by little more than two percentage points to take his fourth USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals title in Tactical (Tactical Optics). Butler (2232.81) was followed by Tyler Payne (2037.98), Rob Romero (1971.27) and Jesse Tischauser (1936.84).

Daniel Horner, seen here at RM3G, picked up another division win at the USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals.
In Limited (Tactical Iron), Kurt Miller (2205.20) narrowly edged out James Casanova (2191.40). Casanova, who picked up a division win at Ozark, needed to win out to catch Miller for the division title. Now, only Kelly Neal, who has two wins already, can catch Miller at FN.
In Heavy Metal Optics, SureFire’s Barry Dueck (2241.54) topped Adam Popplewell (2129.73) for the Nationals win. Dueck now has three division wins, and 300 points, to Popplewell’s 298.77. In what has been a season-long back-and-forth battle between Popplewell and Dueck will come down to the FN match next month. Should Dueck finish ahead of Popplewell, he takes the crown. However, if Popplewell can pick up a division win at FN, he will be the 3GN Heavy Metal Optics Champion.
Junior Katie Harris became the first junior to win top lady at Multi-Gun Nationals in Tactical. Her 1417.79 points topped Jesse Harrison (1363.65) and Dianna Liedorff (1334.75). Harris currently sits in second place in 3GN Ladies and leads Juniors.

Katie Harris, the first junior to win top lady at Nationals, has a shot to win $10K at the 3GN Championship.
Kay Miculek’s 1726.96 points gave her top lady in Open, helping her to maintain the top Lady spot in the 3GN Standings. Meanwhile, Liedorff gained a couple of more points over teammate Tasha Hanish, extending her slight lead for the fourth and final slot in the 3GN Lady Shoot-Off, where one winner will take home $5,000, courtesy of Cheaper Than Dirt.
Check back later this week for a full, in-depth report on all the division races, division standings, competitor information and the announcement of the 3GN Top 50 who have already earned a slot in the 2011 3GN Championship.
