West grew up hunting and fishing, always with an interest in guns and shooting.
He was talked into shooting his first IDPA match by a friend around mid 2008 while he was in his third year of medical shool. West shot his first 3 gun match sometime later that year and fell in love with the sport. After a few good finishes at bigger matches, he became sponsored by Rudy Project in early 2010. Currently, West is working his way through residency in family medicine while trying to shoot as many major matches as he can. Work gets in the way of practice and matches, but he’s been fortunate enough to shoot a lot of big matches with some of the greats like Patrick Kelley and Kurt Miller. “Luckily”, West says, “I have a great wife who is extremely supportive of what I do and helps me at every turn.”
